Abstract

Abstract

Family medicine is the noblest medical specialty of all; not only treats pathologies, but people. Due to the wide spectrum of challenges faced for a patient´s approach and treatment, ethics plays a key role for decision-making. A correct application of ethics will show the physician´s intrinsic skills as an active member in his community, as educator and promoter of health for society. This article analyzes the basic concepts of ethics, its role and importance in daily practice, and the teaching of ethics as a subject in family medicine residency programs.
